Our ORGANIzATION
Drew Toothman
Born in Lynchburg, VA, Drew joined the Marine Corps in 2001 after a year of college. Working as a musician and an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician, he served 12 years, 2 deployments (Afghanistan and aboard ship), and was medically retired in 2014. He moved to Pennsylvania with his wife of 21 years, Misty, and their three kids Karis, Canaan, and Carsen. After spending a few years volunteering with nonprofits, Drew refocused and started the veteran oriented blog, “Mental Grenade” in 2019. Desiring to combat the rising crisis of isolation, he then started Fundamentals Of Biblical Truth in Jan of 2020 and has consistently run the Christian oriented, online support group every Thursday since then. FOB Truth serves not only veterans but active duty military, law enforcement, first responders, and like minded civilians. He currently resides in Birdsboro, PA where he serves as a high school mountain bike coach, bike mechanic, and photographer.
Phillip Hughes
“P.J.” grew up in Chicago, Illinois, as part of an Irish Catholic family, the son of a WWII combat veteran who suffered from PTS. In 1979 he was blessed to team up with a combat veteran and together began a faith journey that continues to this day. He was married to his wife Donna in 1985; they raised 3 children, one of which is with USMC 3rd Recon. In 1991, he fully embraced “non-denominational” evangelical Christianity through “The Walk to Emmaus” program. In 2000, PJ became actively involved with Joni and Friends Disability Ministries and from that, focused on the Warrior Family Retreat Program, serving as a volunteer on more than 18+ retreats. There he learned what it means to be a Paraclete, as a follower of Jesus, and to help another carry their ruck for an extra mile. Helping our War Fighters and First Responders navigate trauma, moral injury using the compass of Christ is his life’s ambition.
Chase Konop
Chase grew up in Chippewa Falls, WI where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America and graduated from McDonell Central Catholic High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps as a diesel equipment mechanic, later transitioning into the Explosive Ordnance Disposal career field where he spent the next 17 years. Chase concluded his 20 year career as a Chief Warrant Officer 3, a career that saw four combat deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel and two overseas duty stations in the South Pacific. Chase was baptized as a baby in the Lutheran Church, later confirmed in the Catholic Church. Following scandal in the leadership of the Catholic Church, Chase broke from the denomination and in doing so lost his way with God for most of his military career. In the fall of 2020 Chase joined FOB Truth’s fledgling group of Christ followers and has been strengthening his relationship with the Lord, improving his understanding of the Word, and growing FOB Truth to be a light through which Christ may shine.
Misty Toothman
Misty Toothman is a Pennsylvania native who returned to the area after supporting her husband’s career in the Marine Corps. Misty initially developed her work ethic, resilience, and ingenuity on her family’s dairy farm; she continued to develop those qualities as the spouse of a deploying Marine, homeschooling mother of three children, caregiver of a combat wounded veteran, and advocate for wounded veterans and their families. In 2018, Misty represented Pennsylvania’s military and veteran caregivers as an Elizabeth Dole Foundation Fellow, advocating for policy changes that impact this unique group. Misty earned her bachelor’s degree in communications with a specialization in journalism and a minor in psychology at Liberty University, her masters in American history from American Military University, and both her Juris Doctor and master’s in taxation from Villanova Law School. Currently, Misty is a Pennsylvania licensed attorney who practices estate law at her firm, Twin Valley Law.

Diversity Statement
We believe that the beauty of God’s design is revealed through the variety of peoples, languages, and cultures He established. From the beginning, God intended the nations to reflect His glory: “From one man He made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth” (Acts 17:26). Our diversity is not accidental—it’s purposeful, displaying the fullness of His character across the breadth of His creation.
The Gospel calls us to a deeper unity that transcends human divisions. In Christ, “there is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28). This unity is not the erasure of our differences but the redemption of them, bound together under the lordship of Jesus.
We recognize that sin has fractured relationships and fostered division, prejudice, and pride. Yet, through Christ’s sacrifice, reconciliation is possible—both between God and man and among one another. “He Himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility” (Ephesians 2:14).
Our mission reflects that truth. At FOB Truth, we strive to build bridges of understanding, compassion, and restoration—especially among veterans, first responders, and the communities they serve. We seek to live as the body Paul described: many members, each with different gifts and callings, yet united in one Spirit and purpose (1 Corinthians 12:12–27).
Our commitment to diversity is therefore not rooted in cultural trend or political language, but in the eternal truth of Scripture: that every tribe, tongue, and nation will one day stand together before the throne of God, declaring His glory (Revelation 7:9–10). Until that day, we labor to reflect that heavenly unity here on earth—loving one another as Christ loved us, and standing together in the truth of His Word.
